Atlantic Beach, FL, March 27, 2017

Dr. Ellen Glasser, a retired FBI Special Agent and UNF faculty member, announced her candidacy for Mayor of Atlantic Beach today. She filed paperwork with the Atlantic Beach clerk earlier this month.

Dr. Glasser has 29 years of law enforcement experience and was an FBI Special Agent for 24 years. Before retiring from the FBI, she was the inaugural coordinator of the North Florida Joint Terrorism Task Force after 9/11. She is Past President of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI, the largest professional organization of its kind for federal law enforcement. She earned a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of North Florida, where she currently teaches hundreds of students each year in the Criminology and Criminal Justice Department.

Mother of six and grandmother of three, Dr. Glasser is married to CAPT Don Glasser USNR (RET), also a retired FBI Special Agent and former Navy SEAL. In addition to other civic and community activities, Dr. Glasser has held positions on the Atlantic Beach Community Development and Code Enforcement Boards.

“I am honored to announce my run for Mayor of Atlantic Beach. I intend to use my proven leadership skills, garnered throughout my life of public service, to bring stability to Atlantic Beach city government, be more fiscally responsible with our citizens’ tax dollars, and  protect our community values for future generations,” said Dr. Glasser.

She also outlined her views on how she can best serve Atlantic Beach. “My neighbors can count on me to be the right leader at the right time for Atlantic Beach. I will restore needed trust and transparency to Atlantic Beach government. With many key staff positions vacated during our current Mayor’s term, our city government is in a state of disarray.  Currently, we do not have a Police Chief, City Manager, or Planning and Community Development Director. It is imperative that we build and retain a team of highly qualified professionals empowered to effectively manage and protect our city. I will also draw on my experience to prioritize the long-overdue accreditation of our police department. Our citizens deserve the best possible representation.”

Dr. Glasser is focused on retaining the unique character of Atlantic Beach, with its coastal and eclectic residential beauty, while developing opportunities for small business growth and economic prosperity. She supports building productive and supportive partnerships with our neighboring cities and the Mayport Naval Station.

When asked about the upcoming campaign, Dr. Glasser said, “I look forward to a positive campaign that will be focused on issues as I spend the coming months listening to all residents and working together for A Better Atlantic Beach.” For more information on Dr. Glasser and her campaign for Seat 1, Mayor of Atlantic Beach, visit
